An LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) connection has become a necessity in most households nowadays. Apart from the ease of use and the dependability of the service, it is also more economical and practical for urban areas.
While most households choose to continue with their gas company (either Indane, Bharatgas or HP Gas), there could be occasions where the customer may wish to change the gas provider.
Earlier, this would have entailed canceling the existing gas connection and re-applying for a new one from the other gas company. So for example if you had an Indane gas connection and you wished to change it to a Bharat gas one, you would have to cancel your Indane connection and then submit an application for a new Bharat gas connection.
This is not only time consuming but also means you would be without a gas connection until the first connection has been canceled, since it is illegal to have more than one gas connection at a time.
In light of this, the three gas companies agreed on an inter-company portability scheme, under which a customer of any of the three can choose to transfer their connection to another company with minimum hassle.
Transferring a Gas Connection from One Company to Another
The process to transfer a gas connection from one company to another was introduced as a means to create healthy competition between the gas companies and to ensure that the companies provided their customers with the best quality and service.
Earlier, the companies used a system known as DE-linking, whereby the customer had to approach the distributor of the current gas company and submit a transfer request personally. The customer would then have to approach the distributor of the gas company he is switching to and submit the transfer request. However there were instances where the distributors have refused to accept the transfer request.
Indane Gas, Bharat gas as well as HP Gas now allow an online method to transfer a gas connection among them without having to cancel the existing connection and re-apply for one.
Online Method of Transferring Gas Connection from One Company to Another
The process to initiate a transfer from, for example, Bharat Gas to HP Gas can now be done online. This ensures that the company the connection is being transferred to accept the transfer request, as this is done online.
Transferring HP Gas Connection to Bharat Gas
To transfer a gas connection from HP gas to Bharat gas, the customer will first have to register on the HP Gas website.
- Choose the distributor from among the options provided for Bharat gas.
- An email confirmation will be sent to the customer that confirms the distribution and the subsequent procedure.
- As the safety regulator and other equipment will not be compatible with the new cylinder, the customer will have to return the equipment to HR Gas.
- The customer will be able to track the request status and will be notified once the request has been accepted.
- The customer will receive a cylinder from Bharat gas once the transfer request has been processed and there will be no additional transfer fee or charge.
The procedure to transfer a gas connection from HP Gas to Indane Gas, from Indane Gas to Bharat gas, from Bharat gas to Indane Gas etc will follow the same procedure listed above.
